Sānxiá Old Street, New Taipei City – from Wandering Richard (http://wanderingrichard.com)

April 26, 2024 Teacher Du (杜老師)arranged for us to go on an excursion to Sānxiá Old Street (三峽老街). I’ve marked the location on Google Maps. It’s in the south-west, beyond the MRT. International House, my home in Taipei, is on the very right-hand corner of the Map, about half-way down. On my way to theContinue reading “Sānxiá Old Street, New Taipei City – from Wandering Richard (http://wanderingrichard.com)”

Yang Ming Shan – from Wandering Richard (http://wanderingrichard.com)

Note: we had a big earthquake a few days ago that received international attention; some people emailed me, including my mother. Most of the damage, and all of the 12 fatalities, were in Hualien, nearly 200 kilometers from Taipei.  The damage in Taipei was limited to broken glass and shaken-up people.   April 4th, 2024Continue reading “Yang Ming Shan – from Wandering Richard (http://wanderingrichard.com)”

University of Sydney, Australia – from Wandering Richard (http://wanderingrichard.com)

February 28, 2024 My Chinese course was over, and a new course would begin in 10 days; so I used this opportunity to travel back to Sydney for a week. I took the opportunity to visit the University of Sydney. (Note that this page is really only for non-Sydney origin readers; readers such as DannyContinue reading “University of Sydney, Australia – from Wandering Richard (http://wanderingrichard.com)”

Huì Guó Market, Taipei – from Wandering Richard (http://wanderingrichard.com)

January 20th, 2024 Today we visited Huì Guó Market (惠國市場), near International House. In the above Google Map, Huì Guó Market is indicated by the red oval; it’s too insignificant to be given a marker at this level. Huì Guó (惠國) translates as “benevolent country” on my computer – I’m sure there is a reason toContinue reading “Huì Guó Market, Taipei – from Wandering Richard (http://wanderingrichard.com)”

Pénghú – from Wandering Richard (http://wanderingrichard.com)

November 26-28, 2023 The academic semester was over, and I had a little less than a week before starting a new semester. The weather was cooling off, though I was still going without my jacket. Red leaves started appearing on the tree below my window; winter was coming. I planned to visit Pénghú (澎湖), anContinue reading “Pénghú – from Wandering Richard (http://wanderingrichard.com)”

Bitan – From Wandering Richard (http://wanderingrichard.com)

October 8, 2023 國慶日快樂! (Guóqìng rì kuàilè!) Happy National Day! On a whim, as I was dressing, I decided to go to Bitan (碧潭), on the Xindian River near International House. The Google map above shows Bitan as very close; I’ve walked there before. However, it was raining (though the temperature I estimated was inContinue reading “Bitan – From Wandering Richard (http://wanderingrichard.com)”

Fulong – from Wandering Richard (http://wanderingrichard.com)

September 29, 2023 中秋快樂! (Zhōngqiū kuàilè) – Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! You can read about it in Taiwan Public Holidays. Just think, it has been over four years since I first came to Taiwan. The weather is cooling off. The mornings are without the heat of summer, though in the heat of the day the temperature isContinue reading “Fulong – from Wandering Richard (http://wanderingrichard.com)”
